Mission
Heti Betevő was founded in 2013 in a pub in the 7th district, on the initiative of friends. The team was inspired by the realisation that the price of a drink could provide a full warm lunch to those in need.
Since 2013, every Sunday, Weekly Eater has been distributing restaurant-quality, nutritious meals and, as far as possible, clothing, cleaning products and other donations at Klauzál Square in the 7th district, and further branches have been set up in Makó, Pécs, Székesfehérvár and the 8th district of Budapest. The costs of the distributions are covered exclusively by financial and in-kind contributions, prepared and delivered to our clients through voluntary work.
Our activities were formalised with the registration of the association in 2014. Currently, we provide 300 portions of warm meals, fruit, home-made cakes, plus sandwiches every Sunday in the Akácos Udvar in District VII. The meals are cooked by supporting restaurants at purchase prices, portioned and distributed by our volunteers. We have developed a well-organised structure and methods to manage everything.
We try to keep track of our guests' lives individually, if possible. There are families with difficult circumstances, where we provide support for talented young people who want to learn, not only with financial aid, but also with tutoring. We regularly welcome young people who are doing community service, many of whom come back to us after completing their 'compulsory hours'. We have contracts with several secondary schools and universities. If you would like to get your child involved, they are welcome to join your team!
Fundraising goal
Currently, every week - at our food distribution point in the 7th district alone - we serve a warm Sunday lunch with fruit and homemade cakes to 350 people. One meal costs about 1000,- HUF. Our goal is to raise the cost of one of our food distributions with your help. We would like to say: the boonshelf community has paid for the Sunday lunch of 350 hungry people!
